We have to give Brad some points for going the extra mile when proposing to Catherine. In describing their special getaway with their St. Bernard, Charlie, to Crystal Mountain, Michigan, Crystal says, “On our last day of the trip we took Charlie for a walk around the snow-covered golf course. On our walk, a couple passed us and asked if they could take a picture of our St. Bernard (which was not unusual because people commonly want a picture of Charlie). The gentleman said that I needed to get in that picture too, which caught me a little off--guard. That’s when Brad turned to me and got down on one knee. Afterwards, Brad told me that he had planned the whole thing and the couple worked at the ski shop and, that morning, he had told them he was proposing and asked if they could document it.”

Catherine says, “The minute Brad and I entered the Mavris, we absolutely loved it. It definitely fit our vision for a winter wedding. We wanted a cozy, warm venue with wood floors, exposed brick and a space that we could do a lot with--and lots of candles! Aly was our wedding coordinator, and actually was the first person we met at the Mavris and gave us the tour. She completely sold us on the Mavris. We decided that day we wanted to book with them! We actually toured the venue on the day we decided to have our wedding the following year.

The dress Catherine fell in love with was one that truly made her feel like a bride. She describes her Alvina Valenta dress as her “Cinderella”dress.

The couple’s biggest challenge? Being 1,000 miles away in Denver, Colorado planning a wedding back in Indianapolis. Catherine admits she survived the process with help from her mom, flights to meet vendors and Skype dates.

What We Love

“Probably one of the most unique and special things throughout the wedding was the fact that my diamond on my wedding ring was my grandma's first diamond from when she got married over 55 years ago,” says Catherine. “My grandparents had a marriage that I admired my whole life. It wasn’t a picture perfect marriage, but they never left each other’s side and were madly in love even 55 years later.”

We also love that Catherine found us! She says,”I found WeddingDay Magazine on Instagram while I was wedding planning and started following the Instagram site. I loved all the pictures and wedding ideas I got from local Indiana weddings. Wedding pictures are my favorite, and I love to see what vendors people use.”

Advice From the Bride

Catherine says, “I wish I would have told my bridesmaids to bring boots when we took pictures outside!! I felt so bad some of them were in open toe shoes in the snow. Luckily, my photographers were great and we were able to get a ton of group shots in less than 10 minutes! So for brides planning winter weddings, make sure remember that it is winter and to come prepared for outdoor pictures!”
