Christina and Nick met a work. Christina says, "Nick and I used to work at the same company. We’ve both since left, but we met volunteering for their annual philanthropic event which raised money for local animal shelters."

Nick proposed on Christmas morning. It was a perfect celebration since it was the couple's first Christmas in their new home. They had spent the morning unwrapping all their presents in bright onesies that they had gotten for one another. Then Christina got to her last present. It was a stuffed animal whose hands were Velcroed together. She says, "The were Velcroed together in a circle holding hands and all I said was, 'gee, thanks.' He said something like 'what are they?' All I could come up with was hearts and then stuffed animal hearts. Then he said 'no, what shape are they in?' I said 'they’re in a circle,' and then as I was staring at them trying to figure out what the right answer was, it finally dawned on me that they were in a ring. And when I looked up, he was kneeling there in his ridiculous bright blue onesie with a diamond ring in his hand. I think we both blacked out after that but I’m pretty sure I said yes at some point!"

After a very sweet proposal, the couple started planning their big day. Luckily for Christina, Nick is an engineer and made up meticulous spreadsheets for the planning. Christina and Nick also knew exactly what they wanted, "Nick and I were aligned on just about everything we wanted for this wedding, so a lot of the planning was just ticking off boxes on a checklist. The main thing was that we wanted it to be an awesome party for our guests. We also knew a lot would be dictated by the venue, so we started there. Once we found the Goei Center, it was really quite easy."

The wedding theme came from Christina's own personal taste. She was known amongst her co-workers and friends for liking a very simple black and white color scheme. She says, "My closet is chock full of black, white and shades of gray. But I was also told that I should have a pop of color. And I just really liked the combination of black, gold and a really true magenta to accent everything."

what we love

Nick and Christina planned a wedding that was truly made for them. The couple made sure to include the friend that had introduced them in the ceremony along with other personal touches. "Our good friend who likes to take credit for getting us together presided over it and it was just warm and funny and genuine. We ended up writing our own vows–both of us managed to include a joke about my hair–and we ended the whole thing with a shot of whiskey. It just set the tone for the rest of the night."

advice from the bride

Christina knows not to stress the little things. She says, "Our whole thought on the thing was that there was a good enough point and the rest wasn’t worth stressing about. Good food, good booze and good friends would make for a great time regardless of all the fussy little details."
