The Wedding Story of... David & Kylea Asher

For Kylea and David, the most important detail of their wedding was to create a homey environment in which friends and family could relax, reminisce and enjoy an entire weekend celebration. Nothing stuffy and overdone, but paying attention to every detail involved for their guests' comfort was key.

Planning began with establishing the theme of "light" with an eclectic blend and Anthropologie store-inspired style. David took the lead by designing the save the dates and invitations in collaboration with the expertise of Joya Helmuth at Spark Design Studio. Colors chosen were the whimsical feel of raspberry pink paired with lime green. The light theme would evolve with the use of boutique-style chandeliers. This theme would be repeated throughout the event in the papery and decor.

The weekend festivities began on Thursday as guests arrived to Brook Lodge Resort in Augusta Michigan. Each guest had their own "cottage" located on the cozy property of the resort. The weather was perfect, with not a cloud in the sky. Guests could enjoy paddleboats to "row, row, row your boat," tennis, basketball, horseshoes, nature trails, a driving range, putting green and much more.

Friday evening featured a Garden BBQ complete with a Conestoga wagon to serve the food and enhance the environment. Tables were dressed in layers of denim, burlap and red bandana cloths. Each guest had their own "create your own s'mores" kit, which became the focal centerpiece of the tables. A bonfire for toasting and a video of childhood photos brought the festivities to a close on the eve of the big day.

Berry pink flower balls were hung in varying lengths from the properties most focal trees and pathways. As the sun began to heat the day, color coordinated pink galvanized tubs filled with soda and water bottles with tags reading "refresh" were placed throughout the property, chilled on ice and tended to all day.

A pathway of flower balls with accents of novelty pink and green ribbons led guests to Genevieve's garden. White wooden chairs were neatly arranged in front of the gazebo surrounded by lush flowers, ripe in season, awaiting the intimate guest list. Kylea and David exchanged vows under a custom made Chuppah. By selecting antique laces, vintage napkins and doilies the wedding canopy soon became a beautiful one-of-kind heirloom.

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were enjoyed in the Doctor's Cottage followed by a tent reception nearby. Comfy furniture with coordinating bold pillow and floral accents were nestled in the surrounding area for added enjoyment.

The tent boasted bold pinks and lime green colors in floral and decor. Silver and crystal chandeliers hung throughout the tent in pairs and trios. By collecting various antique vases, the centerpieces blended fresh looks with vintage style. Surrounding the dance floor were baskets abundant with pink and green flip-flops so guests could kick back and relax in comfort while slipping on some "dancing shoes."

As guests continued cheers and celebration, each of the flower balls that had adorned the surroundings were exchanged for white lanterns filled with a magical glow. Appropriately chosen favors were arranged on an exiting table. Miniature white lanterns with candlelight aglow were neatly aligned for guests taking "to light your path" back to your cottage.

A brunch the following morning allowed guests to mingle for food and farewells before departing. Truly a memorable occasion for all, Kylea and David accomplished their set goal.
