"I used to stare at him in the cafeteria (at work) for a year and a half before we ended up meeting face-to-face. It turns out not only was he the 'hot cafeteria guy,' but he was also my best friend's 'car pool guy.' It took us until this run-in encounter to figure out they were the same person. She set us up and went on our first date with us, and the rest is history." That's how Megan described the way she met her husband, Kevin. Sometimes they tell it best in their own words! Not only did Megan get to marry her "hot cafeteria guy," but she also got one of the coolest last names, ever—say hello to the Boss wedding!

The details

Megan began her wedding planning knowing exactly what she wanted (she admits her Type A personality was absolutely ready for the planning challenges!). However, she still allowed herself to be surprised by keeping an open mind to unexpected decisions. "I was very surprised in the end, I ended up with quite a few things that I never in a million years would have guessed I'd have chosen...like my dress," says Megan.

The dress she is referring to was a custom Liancarlo gown designed with Italian lace, and hand-stitched with gold, platinum and Swarovski crystal details. Megan's original intent was to find a "lace Victoria number from the sales rack." She purchased the dress at Mimi's Bridal Boutique in Ann Arbor during one of their trunk shows.

Although the vast majority of Kevin and Megan's wedding was a result of Megan's creativity, craft skills and personality (she even did her own florals and calligraphy!), she relinquished some planning control to an exclusive group of trusted vendors. One such vendor was their wedding venue: Misty Farms in Ann Arbor. "I knew the second that I saw that venue on the website that I had to have it. It was rustic, it was surrounded by fields, it had horses. It just felt right. We saw one venue and put the deposit down that day," says Megan.

Megan was bound and determined to create a wedding that was reflective of her and Kevin's personality—eclectic and unique. So she incorporated several of their favorite things from home: sheet music, books, records and miscellaneous decor. "Everywhere in the barn and rhe reception tents were touches of our personality. Every detail spoke of us and who we are not only as a couple, but as individual people. I was told many times that night, 'this looks just like your house' or 'I can't believe how much this just speaks of you two.' That's what I wanted—beyond the glitz and the glam, I wanted it to feel like us and it did."

what we love

First of all, the horses. And the lambs. The photos speak for themselves. Secondly, Megan's approach to establishing her and Kevin's wedding to be emblematic of who they are is one that we will always embrace!
