Kristin and Matthew both joined Match.com, deciding to give online dating a try. After a few winks later and within a week’s time, the two were meeting for their first date. “From there it was history,” Kristin explains. “We began a wonderful dating journey of five years before becoming engaged.” The special proposal took place at South Bend’s The Carriage House, where they had a private dining room, decadent meal and fireplace all to themselves.

After getting engaged in November, Kristin knew she needed to hit the ground running and secure her vendors if she wanted a summer wedding. Once she crossed the perfect chapel and reception venue off her list, she was able to focus on other needs.

A fun atmosphere and very personalized wedding were the two main goals for both Kristin and Matthew. The perfect chapel that allowed a close friend to officiate the ceremony and the Blue Heron were the perfect spots for the couple’s South Bend celebration. When it came to the Blue Heron, great reviews, service and food quality, gorgeous grounds, a covered outdoor cocktail ceremony and gorgeous views were major influencers in the final decision. The fact that Matt was taking golf lessons there certainly helped, too! They rest of the vendors were originally based on recommendations, but when the couple saw proof of their talents and mutual enthusiasm, they were sold!

Kristin tried on about five dresses before she knew that her Demetrios dress was the one. “I didn’t expect to find the right one after only one day of searching, but long and behold there it was at the first bridal shop,” she says. “ I did have an idea on the style of dress I was looking for, and I was right!”

Always drawn to the romantic hues of navy and blush, Kristin chose this very combo for her wedding. She added some vintage elements to the chic styling until it reflected everything she had always dreamt of. The sweet ribbon wands that guests waved when the couple exited the chapel were a sweet touch, handmade by the bride, and blush garden roses and anemones served as the perfect floral complement to the palette.

Nothing is more romantic than being read to by your love. That was the exact inspiration behind the typewriter and copy of The Great Gatsby. “Early on in our dating relationship, Matt shared his love of books with me by reading to me. The first book he read to me was The Great Gatsby. Thus, when searching for a guest book, I knew we had to incorporate this classical book. I purchased a vintage typewriter to sit next to the book, perfectly depicting The Great Gatsby error,” Kristin says.

Ceremony music provided by Matthew’s cousin, as well as the close friend serving as the officiant, were also extra special touches that allowed Kristin and Matthew to really personalize their nuptials. Another unique touch? A baseball-themed groom’s cake! It not only helped to satisfy Matthew’s love of chocolate but reflected the couple’s love of baseball, too.
