Nick and Lauren met on Halloween. Lauren says, "Nick and I met on Halloween at a bar in downtown Indy. He asked if I was a princess and I corrected him that I was Marie Antoinette. We hit it off right away and spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other and went on our first date a couple weeks later." Even though Lauren was not a princess, Nick certainly treated her like she was!

Nick's proposal was incredibly sweet. The couple traveled to Washington D.C. and went sight-seeing when Lauren was caught off-guard as they stopped at the FDR Memorial. "Nick mentioned that we should ask someone to take a photo of us, which seemed out of character since he never wants to have photos taken. He found a couple and handed them his phone and GoPro–also weird. They snapped a few photos and started to walk back towards us but Nick asked them to keep shooting. Nick turned to me, grabbed my hand, said all of the right things, and asked me to marry him. I said yes and we spent the rest of the day exploring the city."

The couple started planning with a few things in mind. They knew they wanted the wedding to be in late summer or early fall and that they wanted it to be a celebration with their families. Lauren and Nick chose their venue straight away and it actually led to a lot of the inspiration for the rest of the wedding. "We were inspired by the venue. Crane Bay is a beautiful canvas and we wanted to enhance the venue to give it a modern romance vibe. I had a shared Pinterest board with my coordinator as well as some friends who helped me to better solidify the vision."

The easiest part of the planning was choosing the dress. Lauren had a vision for years of what her wedding dress would look like. "I think this might have been the easiest part of the entire planning process! I’ve always loved JCrew and knew that I wanted to get married in a dress that felt like me. I wanted something very clean and modern with feminine touches. For years, I followed the JCrew special occasions line and once we got engaged, I narrowed it down to a few dresses. I ended up ordering the one dress and that was it!"

what we love

Lauren brought her graphic design background into her planning, designing most of her wedding suite herself. She says, "My background is in graphic design so I created the wedding brand and applied it to our website, invite suite, day-of paper goods and even our ceremony backdrop. I also learned calligraphy and made the white Carrara marble tile place settings for all of our guests."

advice from the bride

Sometimes a wedding is about more than just the bride and groom. This is a special, once-in-a-lifetime event that the people close to you will cherish as well! Lauren says, "Your wedding is a great opportunity to build relationships with your loved ones. When people ask if they can help, let them! You’ll have so many random, little jobs for people to help with especially as it gets closer to the wedding. Make a cheese and wine night out of stuffing invites!"
