Lucas and Alisha began dating in college and later, survived a long-distance relationship for a few years; Lucas lived in Texas while Alisha was attending pharmacy school at Butler University in Indianapolis. And then Lucas did what every girl kind of secretly hopes her boyfriend will do—he planned an epic day of surprises for Alisha that concluded in a romantic proposal. She hadn't even planned on seeing him that day since the distance between them amounted to more than a thousand miles. But Lucas secretly enlisted help of Alisha's friends and arranged for them to take her out for a girls' spa day. When she returned home, she found a card left on her car. The card detailed a scavenger hunt that Alisha was to follow with her friends; the hunt took her to her favorite places in Indianapolis and ended at Eagle Creek State Park where she found Lucas standing with flowers and a ring in pocket!

The Details

Lucas and Alisha incorporated plenty of special moments and personal touches into their wedding day. Alisha's biggest challenge was her struggle to make decisions, but in true procrastinator fashion, she pulled everything together beautifully at the last minute. When she began to plan their wedding, all she really knew was that she wanted an outdoor wedding and due to the couple's love of the lake, a ceremony at Harrison Lake Country Club was fitting. Not only was it fitting for the ceremony location, but it also served as the cornerstone for a little surprise Alisha had planned for Lucas. Alisha had made arrangements for Lucas' grandpa's 1950s Chris Craft wooden boat to be hidden on the side of the lake. When it came time to jump in a getaway car after the ceremony, the newlyweds jumped in the boat instead!

"It was really special to Lucas because he absolutely loves that boat and it was a complete surprise to him. He had no idea it was docked on the side of the lake until seconds before we took off in it. I have never been very good at surprising him so this was pretty special," says Alisha.

Mint and navy have been rather popular colors when it comes to wedding decor, but Alisha was determined to establish her own unique color palette. She knew she wanted navy and she liked the palette of navy and coral, but felt it was too overdone. She also considered mint and blush color pairings but felt blush was also too overdone. Instead, she decided to pair the navy with the mint! Both colors are extremely popular, but blended together is a scheme not often seen in weddings.

Alisha's creativity did not end there. She went on to collaborate with her mom on homemade projects. They made monogrammed pillows, all the chalkboards and signage for the wedding, and they created two personalized "walls" for the reception. The first was a milk bottle wall filled with flowers and the second was filled with stringed photos of Alisha and Lucas. Alisha calls this the "walk our story" wall as the photos document the couple's journey together. Alisha and her mom went far beyond the typical D.I.Y. project as they even etched vases and pie bowls with the Wickersham's monogram and wedding date!

What we love

Alisha may not have known exactly what she wanted in her wedding, but the special touches she brought into the day proved that she knows what's important to her. From surprising Lucas with the getaway boat to including the Wickersham pie tradition into their reception, she made sure to make their wedding a true reflection of who her and Lucas are as a couple. (Any time a wedding includes pie into their reception dessert, it will probably also fall under the "What We Love" category!) We also love the fact that Alisha and her mom designed and decorated several handmade pillows that were displayed on the couches at the reception. The pillows had Lucas and Alisha's names on them and are now sitting in their home so they have a special reminder of their day.
