MacKenzie and Peter’s love story began when they were high school sweethearts. Their engagement, in fact, mirrors the notes of nature and simplicity seen in their beautiful nuptials. MacKenzie explains, “We had planned a big vacation to go out to Wyoming, and it happened there. At sunset in the mountains, he proposed to me right by the Shoshone River. It was perfect.”

“I am an artist, so I knew I could do a lot of the decorations and florals myself,” MacKenzie says. “So I went to Pinterest and started pinning.” Boho, artistry and lots of greenery were the results.

It’s sometimes funny how synchronistic life can be. MacKenzie says, “On the way to my sister's bridal shower, we passed this old, rundown white farm. I told my mom that day that I was going to get married there. The week we got engaged, I saw a post on Facebook that the farm I once dreamed about getting married at opened up as a wedding venue. The Gathering LLC. It was fate.”

MacKenzie describes her Watters gown as boho, flowy and everything she dreamed.

MacKenzie says, “I wanted to be different, I wanted nothing traditional. I walked myself down the aisle because, in the end, it was all about Peter and I. No one else mattered at that moment. I wanted all of my bridesmaids to feel just as important on my special day. So we all wore white. I remember it being such a 'wow' moment.”

MacKenzie’s long list of D.I.Y. projects included large and small macrame weavings, boutonnieres, bouquets and flower crowns (made with her mom’s help), co-designing the invitation with her friend, guest favors, ceramic shot glasses for the guys and ring dishes with gold accents for the girls.

To create the florals, MacKenzie and her mom used tons of eucalyptus, thistle, spray roses and large roses, Queen Anne’s Lace and goldenrod.

Advice From the Bride

This #forthewestraourlives bride says, “Don’t get me wrong. I loved my wedding, and I thought it was magical. But I would say elope. Just you and your husband. Grab your favorite photographer and videographer and travel somewhere you have always wanted to go.”
