ENAMORED

If you would have asked Margaret Kraick three years ago if she believed modern day love stories existed, the then 31-year-old would have laughed in your face and promptly told you no. Even when Travis, a co-worker she’d blatantly ‘checked out a time or two at work’ called to ask her out, her response was ‘Are you kidding me?’ She’d just had surgery and wasn’t feeling up to par, so she told him to call her back some other time.

“I had dated some really bad guys and I had really bad luck,” she remembered. “I was done with all of it and I honestly didn’t think I was ever going to get married.”

But Travis wasn’t giving up. He called again the day after Margaret left that job in December 2008.

“I was nowhere near her apartment on my way home one night but
I gave her a call and lied, saying I was in the neighborhood. I asked if I could stop by, she said yes and we ended up staying up talking until 4 a.m.,” Travis said.

A few days into their relationship, the couple knew they wanted to get married. In the midst of a conversation via text message, Travis told Margaret he was “enamored” by her (he thought three days of dating was a bit early to say ‘I love you,’ but he still wanted to let her know how he felt). She agreed she felt the same.

SCAVENGER HUNT

About 14 months later in February 2010, Travis sat down and wrote five sweet poems (each 12 lines) as clues. He strategically placed them in their respective places and made sure Margaret received the first clue, guiding her to their former workplace—where they had met. There, Margaret picked up a second clue sending her to her own apartment where they had stayed up talking until the early morning hours. After that, clues led her to the first restaurant where she and Travis went out to lunch, back to Travis’s house and finally to a local coffee shop called The Friendly Fox.

Margaret played along, thinking her boyfriend was just giving her an early Valentine’s Day gift. But when she received her final clue from the man behind the counter at the coffee shop, Margaret was puzzled to only find the word “Me?” inside. What she hadn’t noticed were the letters M, A, R, R and Y at the top of each of the five clues. She was thoroughly confused, but it all made sense a few minutes later when she found Travis in a back room of The Friendly Fox and he got down on one knee and proposed.

“THANK GOD I MET YOU”

The couple’s fun-loving personalities and ability to easily understand each other led them through the planning stages of their wedding. Their wedding coordinator and florist, Linda Maggert from One of a Kind Events, pointed out Travis was a very involved groom throughout the process. Margaret agreed.

He willingly went to appointments, tried on several tuxes to make sure he had the perfect one and took dance lessons with his wife-to-be so their first dance as husband and wife would be unique.

When Margaret’s twin sister’s husband couldn’t make it to the wedding because he was deployed in Iraq, the couple found a unique way to include him in their day. A good friend of Margaret’s stood in for him at the wedding, wearing a yellow ribbon with his boutonniere. Her brother-in-law did make it to the reception on a large projector screen via Skype.

Along with the other guests, he was able to watch Travis serenade Margaret to Michael Buble’s I Just Haven’t Met You Yet. At the end of the song Travis said ‘But thank God I met you.’

Thank God he did. Their relationship is living proof that modern day love stories really do exist.
