Rebecca and Scott met at a family birthday party one weekend in Traverse City. It was not until Scott’s sister, Sommer's wedding where, during the bouquet toss, Scott would get down on one knee and pop the question. Rebecca says, “Sommer's new husband Greg gave Scott the garter, and Sommer handed the bouquet to me. I know to some it may seem obvious what was going to happen next, but I still had no idea until Scott walked over and started talking to me, and I heard his voice crack! It was super exciting and such a huge surprise!”

One thing was set in stone for the couple. Their wedding had to be at Sonshine Barn. Rebecca says, “We chose Sonshine Barn for our wedding venue because it is the former home and farm of Scott’s grandparents, Denny and Sandy. Scott had fond memories of his childhood spending time with his grandparents there. Wanting to leave a legacy, they transformed their farm into a wedding venue in 2016. On top of all that, it is absolutely gorgeous!”

After choosing the venue, the rest seemed to fall into place. Rebecca found her dress at Bridal Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The dress was a gorgeous rose color which attracted Rebecca right away—she knew she found the one! In fact, she loved the color so much that it inspired her wedding design. She says, “My color scheme was inspired by my dress which was inspired by the colors of the flowers. The navy came from my husband. His only request was for him and his groomsmen to wear navy suits! I think navy is such a flattering color so I chose it for the bridesmaids' dresses, too. It helped the rose in my dress pop being surrounded by navy.”

What we love

We love that Rebecca and Scott made sure the day was special not only for them but for their entire family. Rebecca says, “What helped make our day so special was our families. Days before the wedding, we worked so hard getting everything ready and had so much fun!”

Advice from the bride

Rebecca says, “Get a videographer! It was so great to watch us during the ceremony and throughout the day because, during the day, everything is such a blur. When I watch our video, it brings back all those happy feelings, and I love seeing our faces as well as our guests’ faces. It is such an awesome feeling to hear our vows again.”
