Fountain Square’s historic roots have a contemporary flair.

Located in the heart of Bloomington, Indiana, Fountain Square is a downtown venue immersed in Bloomington history that offers several unique event spaces. Built in the mid-1800s, it boasts characteristics that are not comparable to others such as the intricate staircase, original brick walls, and the classic 19th-century facade.

This WeddingDay Exclusive Style Shoot combines the history of this venue with a refreshing 21st-century style to highlight an elegant theme that will never go out of fashion. Morgan Banks, the shoot’s coordinator, of Ashley Weddings and Events, says, “Our colors were soft whites, ivories, gold, and black. We kept the shoot classy with a touch of the Victorian era.” This theme fits perfectly with Fountain Square, bringing to life the subtle, yet charming elements it has to offer.

Fountain Square offers four event spaces: The Fountain, The Atriums, and The Ballroom. To bring the spaces together, the style team focused on the unique features of each space.

The Fountain area is an intimate space that boats a glowing, one-story fountain that is sure to catch the eye of any wedding guest. Not to mention, it provides the perfect backdrop for stunning photos!

The Atriums offer open-floor plans with an urban feel. Rebecca Ellison, Marketing Specialist at CFC Properties (company that renovated and owns Fountain Square), says, “These spaces are ideal for cocktail parties or events that allow guests to mingle between spaces – they can easily accommodate small or large events.”

Lastly, and perhaps the most impressive, The Ballroom. Morgan says, “It has an immense Victorian feel with a vaulted, hand-painted ceiling. Our goal was to complement the style of the room by simply enhancing its beauty.” The large, open floor plan offers a kitchen, dance floor, two bonus rooms, and includes tables and chairs with setup, making it the perfect space for a reception or wedding.

While all of these spaces are well-suited on their own, Fountain Square offers an “All-Inclusive” package that uses all four spaces. Rebecca says, “This particular package is especially unique and great for large events as it allows guests to socialize and interact, level to level, offering the ultimate Fountain Square event experience.”

To complement the elegance of the venue, the decor focused on soft textures and timeless colors. Morgan says, “We used gold Chiavari chairs placed on a black and white checkered floor to emulate the ceremony, which were rented from Perfect Parties Tents and Events. The linens were from A Classic Party Rental, and the velvet chairs were rented from Pomp and Bloom.” All of these pieces brought together a beautiful, Victorian-style theme with a modern edge.

Part of that modern edge shines through the florals designed by Cathy Teeters Beautiful Weddings. Morgan notes, “Using mainly whites and ivories for the blooms with the addition of botanical greens, the florals accented the décor in a perfect way.” The botanical greens gave the shoot that extra flair of contemporary fashion.

Two equally romantic dresses provided by That Special Touch Bridal Boutique were selected as delicate pairings to the decor. The first being all-lace with long sleeves, while the second dress had gentle, off-the-shoulder straps and lace decals. Both mimicked the timeless mood of Fountain Square perfectly. And, enhancing the bride’s natural beauty, Studio M carefully curated a graceful appearance with a soft hair-do and subtle makeup.
