Even though Lindsey and Andrew matched on Bumble, they knew each other through rallycross racing. When it came to the proposal, Lindsey suggested visiting the zoo lights one evening, but Andrew surprised her with tickets to the Winterlights at Newfields. Andrew asked for a photo in front of the Kissing Arbor. "I thought 'Hmm, that’s kind of odd he would ask for a photo'," Lindsey says. "We ended up taking a photo together and then afterward he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!"
"As most girls have, I have dreamed about planning my wedding for forever. I worked for a wedding planner in college so I was familiar with the process," Lindsey admits. "I knew that the exact style of the wedding and colors would depend upon the venue we picked and the time of year we got married." Pinterest proved to be Lindsey's most inspirational source after they decided on a venue and date. Wedding planning tools and templates Lindsey found online helped her stay on task for her wedding.
Lindsey knew some common trends from working as an assistant to a wedding planner and decided she wanted to stay away from them. "Our venue is a 23,000-square-foot former estate that has been transformed into a wedding and event venue. The space was so unique and different," Lindsey raves. Getting good vendors with excellent reviews was as important to Lindsey as staying within their budget. Lindsey's background in wedding planning made the whole process fairly stress-free. Many things came easily to her such as the color scheme and floral choices.
What drew Lindsey to the bridal salon she chose was the inclusivity in sizes. After visiting one that had a small size selection, Lindsey knew she wouldn't be able to find the right dress for her without a more accurate idea of what it looked like on her. Lindsey gushes, "I went into the
appointment with a certain style in mind and the dress I picked is not at all something I would have picked on my own. The stylist pulled it and had me try it on and I loved the way it made me look and feel." We think she looks stunning! And check out those glamorous open-toed shoes from Badgley Mischka.
Besides planning the wedding by herself, Lindsey was also able to complete some D.I.Y. projects to help the décor reflect them as a couple. "My dad and I made our centerpieces, I painted and put the vinyl on all of the table numbers, I put the vinyl on the milk bottles and I wrote the names on the acrylic stir sticks, which went inside the milk bottles so people knew which one was theirs," Lindsey explains. Since their guests could choose between five kinds of cake, Lindsey also came up with the idea of creating cake cards that her guests could take to the caterer to indicate which flavor they wanted.
What we love
Having met through their mutual love for racing, Lindsey and Andrew tried to incorporate their love without overdoing it. "Our save-the-dates featured the pagoda from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I was able to track down checkered flags from the race series we met, which was used as our guest book. The winner of the Indianapolis 500 drinks milk out of a vintage milk bottle. So for our champagne toast, we had mini milk bottles filled with champagne for guests, which also doubled as their table assignments," Lindsey shares.
Advice from the couple
Lindsey advises, "Communicate, communicate, communicate. Your vendors are working for you. It is your vision, not theirs. Don’t settle. It is your day, and you deserve to have it be exactly what you pictured it would be."
