If you’re searching for a historical backdrop to host your wedding, look no further than the Fountain Square in Bloomington, Indiana. Overflowing with history and elegance, this collection of buildings was originally built in 1859, but has since been renovated in 1985. During that time, it was considered the largest renovation project in the history of Bloomington.

Events Manager Cathy Johnson explains that during the renovation, the hand-painted Ballroom ceiling was uncovered, and has become a favorite of any bride that books at the Fountain Square. She says, “Everyone loves the Ballroom ceiling! The romantic canopy provides an array of decorative hand-painted details in varying shades and colors, and let’s not forget the Victorian-inspired chandeliers! The light intensity can also be adjusted throughout the evening to achieve the preferred ambiance, which is great for speeches, the bouquet toss, the first dance and more based on how a wedding reception is planned.”

The venue has been transformed into the perfect “clean slate” to accommodate any wedding. The intricate yellow staircase in the Main Atrium or glowing Fountain area are two gorgeous backdrops for any couple’s wedding photos. “The blank canvas really allows a bride to transform it with whatever floor paneling, style of chairs, décor, and more that she desires,” Cathy explains. “The flexibility and opportunity this space provides make it highly appealing not only for intimate weddings, but also for wedding showers.”

Another perk of Fountain Square is that the venue does not have a designated caterer. Brides can bring in the caterer of their choice, which often lends a hand to saving a few dollars in budgeting. Additionally, the venue brings in the spirit of the holiday season with a beautifully pre-decorated area, which is always completed by the Friday following Thanksgiving. If you’re looking for a joyful holiday wedding, Fountain Square has you covered!

After the wedding is over, the party doesn’t have to stop. There are a number of restaurants and bars on the square, perfectly located to extend the after-party to the downtown area. It is also within walking distance to most hotels, and rideshares are also available in the area for a bridal party's convenience.

“There’s a lot of history within these walls, and year-after-year, so many choose to begin their story here,” Cathy says. If you’re ready to book your tour for the Fountain Square, give her a call at 812.336.9230 to see all that this hometown venue can offer!
