The Wedding Story of Macy and Kaleb Thompson

Macey and Kaleb met through mutual friends when Macy was a junior in high school and Kaleb was 19. “Kaleb proposed on a Sunday afternoon after we had gone to church together,” says Macy. “It was a beautiful afternoon. Kaleb asked if I wanted to take my dog, Bella, on a walk. We were walking on the lane of our family farm just talking and enjoying the day, when suddenly Kaleb was on one knee with the most beautiful ring asking me to marry him! Bella must not have been in on the plan because she jumped on him after he asked me!”

Luckily, Macy had a little over a year to plan her fall wedding. She also knew exactly where she wanted to walk down the aisle and celebrate. While she wanted the ceremony to be traditional and elegant and performed by the pastor of the church who baptized and confirmed her, she wanted the reception to be in a fun and comfortable setting. Bartholomew County Fairgrounds proved to be the perfect spot. Macy says, “I grew up in 4H and spent every summer at the Bartholomew County 4H Fair showing livestock and spending time with my brother and friends and also lived just across the street from the fairgrounds. I have known for several years that was where I wanted my wedding reception. I have such fond memories there, and I also knew I wanted to decorate myself (with the help of friends and family)! We chose two adjoining buildings that could accommodate the guests and everything I wanted.”

Macy solidified her top-notch vendors early and had extra help from her photographer in terms of vendor recommendations and even coordination.

The bride scheduled an appointment with her first choice of bridal boutiques, B.Loved, in Seymour, Indiana and, as it turns out, the very last dress she tried on was the one!

Macy says, “One of the things I saw on Pinterest that I had to have were several gold trees behind the head table with uplighting. This meant the five seven-foot tree limbs had to be gathered in the spring, stored until the fall, each limb sorted for the perfect tree, spray painted gold and set in cement in 16 flower pots. It looked as beautiful as Pinterest behind my head table with the purple and gold uplighting. Macy also fell in love with some wooden flower boxes on Pinterest that she wanted on her tables at the reception. As fate would have it, the person that was recommended was someone she had gone to high school with and lived less than a ½ mile from. Macy says, “She and her husband made all the flower boxes (two different sizes) for the tables and stained all of them for the tables in one week!” One last, fun project was gathering with some family and her bridesmaids to add glitter to 90 clear vases, also needed for the reception tables. Macy says, “I thought it would have taken me forever, but with all the help it turned out to only take a few hours and was so much fun. It was like another bridal shower. We had a wonderful lunch and the craft room was decorated beautifully!”

And, if you do things on your own, give yourself plenty of time. I was blessed with family and friends to help me along the way and two long days of decorating. I don’t know what I would have done without them!”
