I was so excited about 2015, I decided to start looking online for wedding trends before the end of the year. But I didn’t find any. It took until the end of January before these inevitable lists started surfacing. Maybe it takes the experts a little while to decide what’s new and fresh!

2014 was all about illusion necklines, rustic gone wild, wood and chalkboard signs, vibrant colors and lots of gold. This year looks to be a little bit of a continuation on some of the themes from last year, with a twist here and there.

Here are some ideas that might or might not take off

  • Very, very muted colors. While blush was hot in 2014, this year the monochromatic look will be popular. Think neutral colors that are very similar to each other. Also surfacing are some darker colors like hunter, marsala (pantone color of the year), dusty blue and plum.

  • Copper madness. Due to the projected color schemes for floral, vases with color and substance will match well. Look for gold, silver, copper and mercury vessels to allow the light-colored blooms to pop. Rose gold could be huge this year but might not last beyond one or two seasons.

  •  Off-the-shoulder bridal gowns. We’re seeing them everywhere and the romance of that neckline can’t be denied! I can just envision Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn donning them. They’re nice because they allow sleeves of any length or material and also make the neck appear elongated.

  • Glitter, glitter and more glitter. If the most popular colors are paler, it only makes sense that there might be a serious need for some sparkle. Glittery linens, sparkly things added to flowers, shiny jewelry – you’re going to see so much of this you might have to close your eyes for a bit. Just be careful: if you’ve ever had a princess birthday party you might know how difficult glitter is to clean up (there are websites devoted to this topic). Hopefully, this won’t be your job!

  • Obsessed with Princess Kate and all things British? That fascination with everything across the pond is translated into garden party/tea party weddings overflowing with lace, floral and sunshine. These jolly receptions can be more budget-friendly, too, as they might take place at brunch or lunch. Don’t be shocked by cream teas.

  •  Greenery will be huge. And we don’t mean eco-friendly (although that trend is still big), we mean luscious greens taking the place of some of the colorful blooms that populated arrangements and bouquets of the past. Some examples might include lighting and greenery hanging from above or used in a boutonniere.

  • Comfort food, food trucks, buffets are all mentioned for receptions. The formal, sit-down dinner is being reconsidered and reconfigured. It can be expensive and maybe a little out of date. Even an appetizer and cocktail reception can be liberating for guests who want to party and not spend so much time sitting. I’d rather have a really good taco than a rubbery piece of chicken.

  • Saying that, elegant weddings are back in style, with everything from the valet to the over the top cakes to the formal place settings.

So pick the trend you like, ignore the trend you don’t, and plan a wedding that’s all you.
