In June of 2018, Nicole started working at a hockey rink and met Colton, who played hockey at the same rink. After getting to know each other as friends for eight months, Nicole and Colton started dating. Four years later, Colton proposed while they were taking family photos on the beach!

When she went dress shopping at one of our favorite bridal shops, Becker's Bridal, Nicole wasn't sure what dress she'd walk out with. "This is not exactly the kind of dress I was looking for, but I was open to trying anything on because I was not 100% sure what I wanted," Nicole admits. However, her mom walked past this dress and told Nicole she had to try it on. Even though she tried on ten other dresses, she kept coming back to the first one, which ended up being 'the one'! We think she looks absolutely stunning in that gorgeous gown.

The venue that Nicole and Colton chose had a lot of impact on the style of their wedding. Nicole shares, "We were drawn to our wedding venue because it looked like an old barn and was not modernized. It was a do-it-yourself venue, so I was able to do what I wanted, set up how I wanted and we had it for the whole weekend." We love the way they brought their wedding to life in this charming venue!

Once they settled on the barn, Nicole and Colton really leaned into the rustic theme. "Colton and I wanted a rustic theme because it is just the kind of people we are," Nicole explains. "We love the country and being outdoors and we wanted something different." Their colors were navy and burgundy, which Nicole loved and had picked out for years. They thought navy and burgundy not only looked good together but also looked good in the venue and suited their fall ceremony!

What We Love

Since the venue was a "do-it-yourself" venue, it gave Nicole an opportunity to flex her creative muscles. She made all the table signs herself and a family friend made the welcome sign, which only added to the rustic charm! Another unique touch they did was something that was close to Nicole's heart. They featured passed loved ones with a memory table and even reserved a seat for her grandfather. Nicole gushes, "The whole day was so special to me and I will cherish it for a lifetime."

Advice from the Couple

Nicole and Colton advise, "The best advice that we can give is that if something goes wrong on the big day, no one else will notice besides you. We also highly recommend designating someone to solve problems when they arise because problems were solved on our big day without them even being brought to our attention. The wedding day FLIES by, so set aside time to have one-on-one time with the person you just married. Whether it’s right after the ceremony or while everyone else is eating, it is soooo worth it!"
