Most people do not look forward to Mondays, but for Cortney and Tyrell, Mondays hold some of the best memories. Cortney says, "Mondays were always ‘our day.' Although I had been predicting a proposal all summer—I did not expect it on Monday, 8-8-16. Those numbers mean a lot to me, especially even numbers and good karma patterns so this date was really special. He created a photo/memory album and proposed at our new house on the patio. We celebrated at Roses in East Grand Rapids after."

After a thoughtful proposal, Cortney started planning the wedding of her dreams with the man of her dreams. She had thought about what she had wanted in a wedding before, but she says, "I’m super type-A and detail oriented and I definitely obsessed over a fair amount of minor details, but it really is true. The day will be perfect no matter what, and remembering why we were getting married in the first place made everything else seem minor." Cortney knew that she could plan a great wedding and she started with booking her venue—The Shoreline Inn—a beautiful, lakeside venue that had the perfect atmosphere for her dream day.

Some things were easier than others when it came to the planning. When it came time for Cortney to find her dress, she had to try on plenty before she found the right one. "My mom, grandma and sisters came with me to Becker’s Bridal. It was super fun having them all with me! I didn’t really have much of an idea of what I wanted and I tried on probably 20 dresses. The one I picked, my grandma and older sister loved right away." With approval from her family, she knew she had found the one!

What we love

Cortney and Tyrell's families were hands-on in wedding planning. Cortney and her mom did the florals themselves, which any bride knows is not an easy task. Cortney says, "We did the flowers ourselves, which was a huge project, but my mom and I LOVED it."

Her advice

After planning a dreamy, intimate ceremony, Cortney gives this advice, "The actual wedding day goes by in a blink of an eye so I really think it’s important to enjoy the planning and preparation leading up to the big event. I also think it’s important to take some breaks from the wedding planning and have some decision-free date nights."
