How this Historic Indianapolis Venue Can Host a Bold and Modern Style.

Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sanctuary on Penn is a highly sought after historic venue that offers all the charming characteristics a bride could seek with the modern amenities to make her wedding unforgettable. In this WeddingDay Exclusive Style Shoot, our team brought in a modern, bold and bright design.

Manager of Sanctuary on Penn Evan Appleman says, “The building was originally built in 1875, so it is a historic building with a lot of character. Part of the building's appeal is that it is so beautiful by itself. Alone it is gorgeous and you can go very minimalist with decorations if you would like!” Keeping that appeal in mind, the team used the features of the venue to create a fresh theme within its walls. Vanessa Rische of Copper Jade Events and Design says, “I was picturing something clean, with a touch of a moody vibe to help capture the colors in the walls.” Captured by Abbey Elaine Photography, a bright new style was brought to life.

This style shoot was all about the details. “The venue gives off a moody, elegant feel,” says Vanessa. “It has gold-toned walls which made the theme and color palette fit perfectly.” The subtle details of the venue make it possible for any style of wedding to be hosted there.

The team focused in on these soft, golden hues and brought in pieces that would bring in that bold color. Amber goblet glasses and orange king and queen chairs from Violet Vintage created a feeling of royalty. Vanessa says, “I used Adorning Oaks for the marquee letters. The initial thought was to hang them in the cocktail space to fill the high peaked room and make it seem cozier.”

Other elements that brought the shoot together were the lush florals and greenery which paired perfectly with the alluring characteristics of the venue. An elegant, modern gown from Marie Gabriel Couture Bridal offered a clean look that was also effortlessly timeless. The dessert bar featuring delicious desserts from Emily’s Eats and a cake from Whisk Bakery and Catering offered a fun, modern aspect to the historic setting.

Sanctuary on Penn combines its versatile style with excellent service, making it easy for any couple to plan their wedding here. Evan says, “We are an all-inclusive, one-stop shop for planning your wedding. While we have everything you could possibly want from DJs to photographers, we are also fairly hands-on in the planning process, serving as both your wedding venue and planner - that way you have someone there with you every step of the way to help you with all the details. We absolutely love what we do and are passionate about planning and running weddings. I highly recommend anyone who has heard about Sanctuary on Penn to stop by and see it for yourself!”
